Welcome to our MYP 3 Indigenous Cultures Wiki!

Indigenous peoples are the original inhabitants of many countries. They are also called first peoples, tribal people, aboriginal people, autochthons and, sometimes, the "Fourth World".

Indigenous peoples number about 300 million, distributed among all five continents.

Two questions guide our research:
1) What constitutes a civilization? What common traits can we use to compare civilizations ?
The class has decided on the headings we will use to compare the indigenous civilizations we are studying:
  • Location
  • Government
  • Economy
  • Society
  • Belief Systems
  • Customs
  • Science and Technology
  • Art and Architecture

2) What have modernization and globalization meant for indigenous peoples? How have they benefited and suffered?
